An early 20th century (1900s) photograph showing Hari Parbat (also known as Koh i Maran) , Fort, Makhdoom Sahib Shrine and Jamia Masjid in one frame.

In 1590 an outer wall of the fort was built during the rule of Akbar as part of his plans for a new capital but it was never completed until a fort was built in 1808 during rule of Atta Mohammad Khan of Durrani Empire. Jamia Masjid mosque was founded by Sultan Sikander in 1394 and completed in 1402, and is regarded as one of the most important mosques of Kashmir.
