My journey to Mattur

గత నెల నేను కర్ణాటకలోని షిమోగా జిల్లాలోని సంస్కృత గ్రామమైన మత్తూరు వెళ్లాను. షిమోగా నగరం నుండి 5 కె.ఎం. దూరం.

నేను ఒక నెల అక్కడే ఉన్నాను. నేను సంస్కృతం నేర్చుకున్నాను.

మా గురువుగారు మాన్య  శ్రీ కిరణావధాని. అతని తల్లిదండ్రులు, తాతలు, ముత్తాతలు కూడా గొప్ప సంస్కృత పండితులు. వారు ఒక తరం నుండి మరొక తరానికి  సంప్రదాయాన్నిఅందిస్తున్నారు. కొంతవరకు నేర్చుకోవడానికి 8 సంవత్సరాలు పడుతుందని గురువుగారు నాకు చెప్పారు. ఒక నెలలో నేను కొంచెం మాత్రమే నేర్చుకున్నాను.

కానీ సంస్కృతం యొక్క లోతైన అర్ధాన్ని అనుభూతించాను.

వారి ఆతిథ్యానికి నేను ఎల్లప్పుడూ కృతజ్ఞురాలను.

వారు చాలా   స్నేహపూర్వకమైన మర్యాద కలవారు.

వారు సంస్కృతంలో మాట్లాడతారు. నేను అర్థం చేసుకోగలిగాను కాని నేను హిందీలో మాట్లాడాను.

ఈ గ్రామం తుంగా నది ఒడ్డున ఉంది.

"గంగా స్నానం, తుంగా పా నం శ్రేష్టం" అనే సామెత విన్నాను.

 ప్రధాన పంట అరేకా.

నదికి అవతలి వైపు మరొక గ్రామం హోసల్లి ఒక గమక గ్రామం. గమక ఒక  కళ. ఇది కథ చెప్పే కళ. గమక కళా  పరిషత్ (అకాడమీ ఫర్ గమాకా ఆర్ట్) గమాకా భవన అనే గ్రామ సామాజిక భవనమ్ లో కార్యక్రమాలు నిర్వహిస్తుంది.

మత్తూరులో, సంస్కృత, వేదం, వేదాంతమ్ పారాయణం ప్రతి ఇంటి  నుండి నేను విన్నాను.

అగ్రహారంలో చాలా దేవాలయాలు ఉన్నాయి.

Last month I went to MATHUR, the Sanskrit village in Shimoga district, Karnataka. Mattur is 5 K.M. away from Shimoga city.

I stayed there for a month. I learned Sanskrit.

Our guruvugaru manya Shree Kiranaavadhani. His parents, grandparents even great-grandparents are great sanskrit pandits. They're passing on the tradition from one generation to the next. He told to me that it takes 8 years to learn up to some extent. in one month I learned only a little.

But I felt the in-depth meaning of Sanskrutham.

I am always grateful for their hospitality.

They are very amenable and amicable.

They speak in Sanskrit. I could understand but i speak in Hindi.

The village is situated at the banks of the Thunga river.

I heard a saying “Ganga snaanam, Thunga paanam sreshtham.”

 The main crop is the Areca nut.

The other side of the river another village, Hosalli is a Gamaka village. Gamaka is art i came to know. It is story-telling art. Gamaka Kala Parishat (Academy for Gamaka art)conduct programs in a village social building activity called Gamaka Bhavana.

In Mattur, from every house recitation of Sanskrit, Veda, and Vedanta I heard. 

Many temples are there in the agraharam.
